On May 15, at the 2019 China Dairy Summit Forum and the launch ceremony of "Refuse Flavor Milk Powder in Action" held by Wugu Finance, Jiang Jingxiong, executive vice chairperson of the Pediatric Nutrition Professional Committee of the China Eugenics Association and an expert in infant and young child health care, said that with the continuous increase in quality improvement, formula research and development, and consumer communication by domestic milk powder companies, nutritious formula milk powder should refuse to add ingredients such as flavors, cane sugar, maltodextrin, and corn syrup.
According to reports, in formula milk powder, vanillin is a widely used food flavor. Vanillin does not have nutritional value, and frequent consumption of this "flavored" milk powder may lead to infants and young children's dependence on strong taste, resulting in babies prone to different degrees of partial eclipse, picky eater, and anorexia.
In this regard, leading milk powder companies such as Junlebao, Feihe, Shengyuan and other leading milk powder companies have made it clear that they refuse to add flavors to infant formula milk powder. In addition, 13 milk powder companies such as Renzhichu, He's, and Four Seasons Nanshan have also joined the "Refuse Flavor Milk Powder Action".
The "no to flavor" statement of the leading milk powder company is regarded by the industry as a manifestation of the transformation and upgrading of dairy companies, the optimization of product structure, and the pursuit of differentiated competition. Data show that more than 100 brands of infant milk powder with formula registration in China have no flavor in the ingredient list.
Industry insiders believe that with the further standardization of China's infant milk powder market, the branding impression of domestic milk powder continues to rise, which will provide opportunities for domestic milk powder companies to seize more market share and reshape the industry structure.
